Safety

At Stoneco of Michigan, the safety, health, and wellbeing of our employees, customers and the public is our #1 priority. Safety and health are a cornerstone of our overall business strategy throughout our companies. We portray this stress on safety in our company’s Core Values: Education & Health Awareness, Employee Driven Safety Culture, Zero Incidents and Zero Fatalities.

Education & Health Awareness

At Stoneco, nothing is more important than ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our employees. Our company seeks to provide state-of-the-art training and tools for our team members so they can be safe and successful on the job.

Our health and safety protocols and procedures go beyond baseline regulations. Each spring, our safety director and other company safety specialists host classes for all of our employees to attend. At these meetings, employees learn first aid, CPR, and other skills they would need to handle an emergency on the job site.

We also provide our employees with on the job physical therapy through Fit for Work. The professionals from Fit for Work will guide employees through stretches and exercises to prevent or reduce job-related pain and will recommend changes to workspaces to help avoid bodily strain.

Employee-Driven Safety Culture

Safety doesn’t happen by accident. Our employees pay careful attention to their safety, and the safety of everyone around them. We encourage our employees to SEE, STOP, DO – when they see a task being done incorrectly or in an unsafe manner, they are expected to stop their coworkers and discuss how to do things better, and then move forward with their safer and more efficient plan.

Stoneco employees also take part in multiple safety-driven events each year, including:

  • Meetings to discuss safety with upper management
  • Monthly Tool Box Talks
  • Annual MSHA refresher classes
  • Go Orange Day

Our emphasis on safety has come from an employee-driven culture and a desire to send every one of our miners and contractors home safe at the end of each day.

Our award-winning safety record demonstrates a long-standing commitment to producing high-quality work in a safe, productive manner. Stoneco of Michigan’s employee-driven programs is a model in our industry. They have resulted in an atmosphere where safety is a way of life.

Zero Incidents, Zero Fatalities

We expect our employees to work every day without an incident. This includes a focus on common high frequency and minor accidents.

Our solemn commitment to our employees is to prevent fatalities. As a company, we pledge to Make Safety a Family Business and to ensure that our employees all get to return to their families at the end of each workday.
